Kitten Rescue has two programs to help the community with over population of unwanted cats.

These are available to Mason County residents only.

We have a low income matching altering program. Shelton Veterinary charges $50.00 for altering male cats and $60.00 for female cats. This price is one of the lowest in all of Western Washington. Kitten Rescue pays half of the cost of the altering only. If you desire immunizations the cost of those will be your responsibility. Our grant was renewed the first of June, so if you have feral kitties or are low income make that appointment with Shelton Vet,  360 426 2616 ASAP!

The feral fix and release program described below has used up its grant for 2011 and if renewed will be started again in January of 2012.

For homeowners with feral (wild) cat problems, we have a program where we pay the entire cost of the altering for males and females cats and loan traps to catch and transport the cats to the vet. Call Shelton Veterinary first, 360 426 2616, and set up an appointment for one cat only. We have a limited number of traps. These traps are expensive and we will ask for identification and to have the traps returned promptly.

You must agree to provide food and water for the altered cats. This is not a relocation program; these animals will be your responsibility. We do help low income people with occasional sacks of dried cat food. A small portion of the cats ear will be removed during surgery to identify the fact that the cat has been altered. If this cat is your pet instead of a feral, you will be expected to pay half of the cost of the operation.

Half of all kittens born in the United States this year will die for lack of food and homes. Please be responsible and alter your pet before it becomes sexually mature. That can happen as early as six months!
